Basketball Saskatchewan – Technical Director

General Description
The Technical Director is a newly created position responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Associations activities and resources connected to its technical programming (high performance through grassroots) in accordance with the direction provided by the organizations long term strategic planning. The person in this capacity shall work the Executive Director, Board of Directors and High Performance Coaching Group in the development and continuing advancement of the following programs:
- Saskatchewan Provincial Team Program (PT)
- High Performance Training Programs
- Talent Identification Programs (ID)
- National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)
- Support with Officials Clinics
- Canada Basketball National Team Camps
- 3×3 Pathway and Training Program
- HP Indigenous Engagement and Training Program
- Jr. NBA Programming
- Membership Support Services
- Identification and Development of Additional Programs and Services
Organizational Structure
The Technical Director will report to the Executive Director and will serve as team lead for the High Performance Coaches Group.
Liaison
- The Technical Director liaises externally with:
- Canada Basketball Technical Directors at the 11 other Basketball PTSO’s
- University of Saskatchewan Basketball Programs
- University of Regina Basketball Programs
- Various USport/CCAA/NCAA/Prep School Programs
- SHSAA
- Member Associations
Power of Decision Making
The Technical Director has authority to take the measures that are necessary in the daily management of the approved plans, policies and programs. For actions required beyond these limits, the Technical Director is required to have decisions approved through the Executive Director.
The Successful Candidate Would Possess:
- An extensive background within the sport of basketball as either a coach and/or administrator.
- An understanding of Basketball Saskatchewan programs and the national and provincial sport delivery system.
- An understanding of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD & CS4L) concepts and goals.
- A high-energy work ethic with the capability of multi-tasking with good organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability of manage the day-to-day technical activities of the organization.
- Computer skills that would include knowledge of Microsoft Office, email and other web-based applications.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of NCCP Basketball Train to Compete Certification or an Advanced Coaching Diploma.
- A related University or College degree or related experience in sport administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Drivers License
- Safe Sport Requirements (Respect in Sport, Current Vulnerable Sector Check, NCCP Safe Sport)
Pay Scale and Performance Reviews
- The pay range for the position will be between $65,000-$77,000 depending on level of experience upon entry into the position.
- Benefits will also be offered as part of the position after a trial period of 6 months.
- Performance Reviews will be conducting annually for potential adjustment to salary. Review will be led primarily by the Executive Director but will have feedback included from other parties if pertinent.
- Pay Scale Range will be reviewed every 4 years in alignment with funding provider guidelines.
Specific Responsibilities
Delivery of the High Performance Plan as Part of the High Performance Coaching Group
- Development yearly training calendar that is in alignment with stated objectives
- Create a provincial level competition structure for increasing training opportunities for HP athletes
- Support provincial teams attending National Championships
- Oversite of Mentorship Program for HP Coaches
- General administration and management of the programs not covered in the above items
National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)
- Deliver NCCP Basketball Clinics (Fundamentals, Learn to Train, Train to Train)
- Conduct NCCP Coach Evaluations
- Reporting as needed to the Executive Director
- Documentation
Introduction and Participation Programs
- Oversite of Intro and Participation level programs (i.e. JR. NBA)
- Ensure content is in alignment with organizations LTAD Pathway
- Reporting as needed to the Executive Director
- Documentation
Membership Support Services
- Develop tools for member clubs to use to ensure a cohesive pathway for players through LTAD
- Guest coaching at member club training sessions as requested
- Sanctioning support – on site representative at member tournaments
Administration, Communications and Representation
- Regular meetings with the High Performance Group
- Administration support as needed within the HPCG
- Reporting as needed to the Executive Director including annual reporting to funding providers
- Documentation
- Appearances as a BSI representative at various events such as the BSI AGM, HOOPLA, Mamba games, large tournaments etc.
